Only in America: eBay Seller Sues Over Negative Feedback

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

GavelSo you’re an eBay seller and have received negative feedback from a customer. You do what you can to resolve the problem, but the buyer refuses to remove the feedback. What can you do? Well, if you’re in the United States then you file a lawsuit. The seller, Med Express, is suing the the buyer, Amy Nicholls, for slander.

I’m on the buyer’s side, although I probably would have only given a “neutral” rating. Having to make a trip to the post office to pay postage due is a always a pain.

Update (2013-04-19): Because of all the publicity, the lawsuit is being dropped. But research shows that Med Express has a history of doing this.

eBay Continues To Alienate Its Core User Base, Part 2

eBayeBay angering its sellers is not a new topic here at Chad’s News. This time it’s trying to institute a PayPal-only policy. I think the online auction business is ripe for some newcomer to replace eBay as the best auction site—much in the way that Google came out of nowhere to overshadow Yahoo!, Alta Vista, Lycos, and other search engines.

No More Negative Seller Feedback on eBay

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008

eBayeBay has announced a new policy where it will no longer let sellers leave negative or neutral feedback. They’re doing this because they believe that buyers who get bad feedback tend to stop using eBay. (Isn’t that the point?) Although I will say that as a buyer, I have been hesitant to leave neutral feedback in the fear that the seller would retaliate by leaving me negative feedback.

eBay Feedback Tools

eBayToolhaus.org has some useful tools related to eBay feedback. My favorite one allows you to view just the negative feedback of an eBay user—no more scrolling through page after page to check on the negatives. For power users, there’s a related bookmarklet and Firefox extension.

I hear similar predictions of doom every time eBay raises its rates, but the article seems to think that it’s serious this time.

eBay

Some useful tips for selling on eBay, and they parallel my own experience. Another trick I’ve seen is to set the price at $0.01 with “Buy It Now” and set the shipping fairly high. This drastically lowers the fees you pay to eBay, but you still make the same amount of money.

eBay

Deborah Hale of Denver has put up her house for sale ($600K) and made national news. The caveat is that the buyer, if a compatible male, will also get her as a bride. Apparently the eBay ad was pulled, but all the details are available at her web site. She’s pretty good looking, too…
